Karl Javernig and Robyn Gordon

Karl Javernig comes from a musical family, surrounded by music from an early age. His Czech father, Italian mother, and his uncles played music all around Sydney. Karl tried various instruments when he was younger, but settled on the guitar as a teenager. It has become a passion ever since. He started playing jazz solo guitar in local Mountains restaurants, cafes and pubs in the 80s and 90s when he honed his nylon string, finger‐picking style.

He met Martyn Cook at a local mid‐Mountains music and poetry night in the late 90s and they instantly became firm friends and musical colleagues. He met Robyn Gordon a few years later, and pretty soon the trio Jazz Daiquiri was formed, playing music all over Sydney and the Blue Mountains. Jazz Daiquiri has recorded two EPs ‐ one of jazz standards, the most recent with original songs written and composed by Karl and Robyn.

Karl has also performed in Newcastle, Wollongong, Kiama, Port Macquarie, Dungog, Mudgee, Portland, Lithgow and at the UNESCO International Jazz Day in Wagga Wagga. He has performed with the likes of Kate Woolfe, Lisa Finn‐Powell, Jason Thornton, and Oliver Morley‐Sattler.

On the community side of things Karl was one of the original founding members of the Blue Mountains Ukulele Festival and served on the Committee of the Blue MUGs for a number of years.

Musical influences include Brian May, Slava Grigoryan, and Wolfgang Muthspiel. He is an avid classical music fan, preferring modern composers like Carl Vine, Peter Sculthorpe, Ross Edwards and Richard Charlton.
